MDS Monday - Interesting Parking Round Here

Yesterday was a beautiful day so I decided that rather than spending the day stripping wallpaper I would go and explore the area around my new house a bit.  I had a lovely time, saw some beautiful buildings, and then walked along the canal for a while.  When I got home however there was one image that stuck in my mind - something a little different.

It amused me so I decided to make a very quick Scrapbook Page in My Digital Studio to share the photo I took with my friends.  I love that MDS allows me to do that - share a photo along with a bit of a story, and this whole page took me just minutes to make.

Beautiful Flowers inspired this card

As I sat at my desk getting ready for this month's Perfect Pennants Card Making Class I was inspired by the beautiful Tulips I had been given to make this card.

The flowers were made using the lovely Spiral Flower Die and they are nestled in a frame cut with the On Film Framelits.  The leaves were made using the Bird Builder Punch.  The dotty background was created using the dotty stamps in the Perfect Pennant Stamp Set as was the appropriate 'You make me happy sentiment'  Flowers always make me smile!

Here are the flowers that inspired the card, as they opened the yellow became more obvious and the two tone nature of the blooms is stunning

and as I hope you can see the flowers on the card are a combination of yellow and pink too.  And can you spot the stray dimensional back that was in one of the flowers!  Whoops - they really do get everywhere!

Scrapbook Saturday - Inspiration Start Point using Retro Fresh Papers

Yesterday I offered a challenge to my team of lovely Stampin' Superstars - and their challenge is to use the page I am going to share with you as a start point for their own project.  Their projects can be scrapbook pages, cards or anything else they want - it just has to use this as their start point.

This page features the lovely Retro Fresh Designer Series Papers and a Tag from the coordinating Retro Fresh Designer Series Tags.  I love the combination of colours in these papers and find myself having to remember that there are other colours!

Find Out About Friday - Top 5 Crafting Trends for Spring 2014

Round here it is starting to feel like spring may almost be here - and I for one can't wait!  I love the crisp freshness that come with spring.  For this week's Find Out About Friday I thought I would share the top 5 Crafting Trends for Spring 2014.

Trend 1 - Using natural materials and neutral colours with a metalic highlights, especially in gold

Inspired by nature and incorporating the natural beauty of materials such as wood, cottons and burlaps natural materials and neutral colours are one of the top trends this spring.  In particular this spring you will find them matched with a touch of gold.

Want to keep up with this trend?  Stampin' Up! have lots of products that can help you do that!  Quite aside from the whole Neutrals Range of card, inks, accessories and patterned papers, there are lots of natural kraft products like boxes and bags and bunting oh and who could forget the delightful Essential Wooden Elements.  There are also lots of ways to add your splash of gold - the incredible Gold Fancy Foil Designer Vellum, Gold Washi Tape, Gold Sequins, Gold Ink and Gold Baker's Twine.  

This trend is going to be a lot of fun to play with and give classy results every time!

Trend 2 - Mixing Pastels With Bright Colours

Straight off the fashion catwalks this trend will give pastel colours a whole new feel.  When I saw Pantone's Colour report for Spring 2014 I was struck by just how many of these colours feature in the Stampin' Up! range and am inspired to try some new colour combinations.

Trend 3 - Using Handwriting on Projects

Adding handwriting to projects has been a growing trend and now its right up towards the front - think hand written labels and greetings on cards as well as journaling on your scrapbook pages.  I know my first reaction to this one was Oh No! and I am sure I am not alone in that.  Then I remembered how many stamp sets we have with a hand written feel and felt a lot better about it.  For the braver among us the fact the Stampin' Write Markers come in all the Stampin' Up! Colours will make this trend easier to incorporate.  The Chalk Marker will allow you to add the popular chalk board feel to your projects. 

Trend 4 - Patterns

Bright Bold Geometric Patterns and softer floral patterns that remind me of the 1960's and 1970's are very dominant this spring.  To give you some examples check out the Kaleiderscope Papers from Stampin' Up! amd the Mini Memories Simply Created Album Kit.  Both happy and fun and right on trend!  There are also many stamp sets in the Spring Summer Catalogue which will allow you to create your own patterns and use this trend on all your projects.

Trend 5 - Watercolouring

Watercolouring never really goes out of style but this spring it is back on trend!  The soft interplay of colours and the fun finishes that can be achieved will give you hours of creative fun.  You don't even need to be an artist to get into this trend - check out products like the Watercolor Wonder Note Cards, the Watercolor Wonder Designer Series Paper and of course the fantastic Happy Watercolor Stamp Set which enables you to stamp your own watercolour background!

Lots of Thanks Treat Bag

A lovely friend of mine made my world a much simpler place yesterday and I wanted to give her a little something to say Thank You.  The little gift fitted nicely into one of the gorgeous printed goodie bags from the Celebration Basics Kit which was left over from the things I made for last weekend's big celebration for my Mother.

I added a Tea Lace Doily and a banner cut from a scrap of the Fresh Prints Paper Stack.  The sentiment from the lovely Lots of Thanks Stamp Set was stamped onto one of the stickers from the Bermuda Bay Celebration Add On Kit (again one I had not used on last weekend's goodie bags).  Then I added some flowers punched from Pink Pirouette Card using the Itty Bitty Punch Shapes and topped them with a Rhinestone.  The bag was then tied shut with some Pink Pirouette Taffeta Ribbon.

I love how all the Stampin' Up! Scallop Top Punch Party Card

Yesterday I spent the morning with the lovely Jo and her friends, making a card, chatting, laughing and with them doing some shopping.  We had a lot of fun - which is what happens when you book a Stampin' Up! Party.  There will also soon be a lovely big box of goodies making their way to Jo for her and her friends including some lovely freebies for Jo!  If you want to book a party then get in touch (bekka@feeling-crafty.co.uk) and you and your friends could soon be having a great time!  If we party together before the end of March then everyone could end up with some free goodies (just like Jo's friends did!)

Six Sided Sampler Butterflies and how they can help with creative block

Today I am going to share a card which may look a bit familiar - I have used almost the same design as this card here, but with some variations.  

Sometimes when you need to make a card you will find that the ideas just don't flow - it happens to us all and the important thing is not to panic.  There are lots of things you can try to beat that creative block and one of those is to copy a card you have made before and changing one or two things.  Before you know it you will be back on a roll!

For this card I have placed the Butterflies on hexagons stamped with the lovely Six Sided Sampler Stamps and then punched out with the Hexagon Punch.  The greeting is from the Four You Stamp Set - such a very useful stamp set.

Scrapbook Saturday - Retro Fresh Oh Snap!

At this month's Feeling Crafty Scrapbook Club we featured the gorgeous Retro Fresh Papers and the coordinating Journaling Tags.  Using a number of pre-prepared elements like the Journaling Tags made Scrapping fast and fun and the tags are double sided so nothing goes to waste!
