Find Out About Friday - How to make a Silk Effect Background for your Stamping

For this week's Find Out About Friday I am going to share a fun technique using the Stampin' Up! Creped Filter Papers to create a beautiful textured background for your cards that makes it look like your images are printed onto silk.

Here is a card I made using this technique.  The finished layer is very tactile and everyone who has seen this card has felt the need to stroke it!

What is even better is that this effect is really simple to create.  You will need some Stampin' Up! Creped Filter Paper which costs just £2.75 per pack, the stamps and Stampin' Up! Inks of your choice, some Whisper White Card and either some Tombow or a Glue Stick.

You can see the texture in more detail here

This is what you do:

  • Firstly cut a piece of the Creped Filter Paper to be a bit larger than the size you want the finished panel to be.
  • Stamp your images in the smooth side.
  • Next comes the bit some people find scary!  Scrunch up your stamped paper - nice and tight and then gently open it up without smoothing out all the creases.  You should now have a wonderfully textured piece of stamping.
  • Cut your Whisper White Card to the size you would like the finished piece to be and cover one side with either Tombow or Glue Stick.  Place the stamped layer over the Whisper White Card with the textured side up and  with out smoothing out the creases.
  • Wait a couple of moments for the glue to dry and then trim the extra Creped Filter Paper from the sides of the Whisper White card.
  • You beautiful textured silk effect panel is now ready to use on your project.

Have fun with this technique and I look forward to seeing what you create.  If you need any supplies for this project just email bekka@feeling-crafty.co.uk and we can get that organised for you.
